HÔTEL-DIEU DE PARIS. - Extract from the registers of the Roy - Lot 51
HÔTEL-DIEU DE PARIS. - Extract from the registers of the Royal Academy of Sciences [...]. Rapport des Commissaires chargés, par l'Académie, de l'examen du Projet d'un nouvel Hôtel-Dieu. Paris, De l'Imprimerie royale, 1786. - Second rapport... S.l.n.d. [1786]. - Extract from the registers of the Académie royale des Sciences [...]. Troisième rapport... Paris, De l'Imprimerie royale, 1788. Together 3 works in one volume in-4, bradel cartonnage (Ateliers Laurenchet). Collection containing the three reports of the commission appointed at the request of the Académie des Sciences to examine the proposal to transfer the Hôtel-Dieu de Paris, whose sanitary conditions were deemed deplorable: the commissioners, who included Daubenton, Lavoisier, Laplace and Bailly, preferred the creation of 4 hospitals in various parts of the capital to the architect Poyet's project, which consisted of a single establishment; they also agreed on the need to transfer the Hôtel-Dieu. The construction of these hospitals was authorized by the King, and a charitable subscription was opened: this raised a large sum of money, which was however diverted from its intended purpose under the ministry of Loménie de Brienne and used for state needs; these projects were halted for lack of funds, then postponed under the Revolution. The first two reports are each illustrated with a fold-out table.
