By a true patriot of 89. Lausanne, et se trouve à Paris, chez les Marchands de nouveautés, 1797. In-8, shagreened basane, smooth ornate spine, red titles, marbled edges (contemporary binding).
First edition, with an unsigned engraved frontispiece, of this pamphlet in which the author criticizes the Revolution: "All these heroes of civism have never thought for a moment of the true interest of the people; they have devoured each other, & for a long time, the successors of the virtuous Louis XVI have pirouetted between his crown & the scaffold. The edifice of the republic was built on corpses and ashes.
Auguste Danican (1764-1848), a general sentenced to death for leading the royalist insurrection of 13 Vendémiaire An IV, went into exile in England. According to Quérard, Supercheries littéraires, he was the son of André Danican, composer and famous chess player known as Philidor.
