HÉBERT. - Judgment rendered by the Revolutionary Court, whic - Lot 168
HÉBERT. - Judgment rendered by the Revolutionary Court, which [...] condemns said Hébert, Ronsin, Vincent, Momoro, [...] to the death penalty. S.l.n.d. [at the end]: De l'Imprimerie du Tribunal révolutionnaire [1793]. Booklet in-4, 19 pages, green half-paper (19th century binding). First edition. Account of the trial of the pamphleteer Jacques-René Hébert, born in Alençon in 1757 and guillotined in 1794, creator of the satirical newspaper Le Père Duchêne, and other companions of the Hébert faction (Ronsin, Momoro, Vincent, Laumur, Kock, Proly, etc.), all convicted of conspiracy against the liberty and security of the French people and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Tribunal. Each judgment was printed separately. Each day, the Revolutionary Court printed a number of copies limited to that of its members and jurors. These judgments were never sold or peddled outside the Tribunal (Tourneux, n°3946). These printed judgments are very rare. A copy by Edmond de Goncourt (1822-1896), with his autograph signature: passionate about the 18th century, the Goncourt brothers jointly wrote a Histoire de la société française pendant la Révolution. Some browning, trace of paper formerly stuck to the first cover.
