Complete collection of 147 issues of La Trompette du père Duchêne, a periodical written by Antoine-François Lemaire, "one of the most esteemed writers of the Revolution" (Hatin). In issue no. 67, July 23, 1792 (pp. 7-8), we find the first publication in Paris of the immortal Chant de guerre pour l'armée du Rhin (first name of the Marseillaise): the hymn, composed by Rouget de Lisle in Strasbourg on the night of April 25-26, 1792, was first circulated in Alsace in manuscript or printed form (notably in the Affiches de Strasbourg), and was then rapidly distributed in the capital's newspapers. Some foxing. Small marginal paper loss with damage to the last three lines of text on n°122. Spine dry.
