ROBESPIERRE (Maximilien). Rapport [...], sur les Rapports de - Lot 224
ROBESPIERRE (Maximilien). Rapport [...], sur les Rapports des idées religieuses et morales avec les principes républicains, et sur les fêtes nationales. Séance du 18 floréal an II. Paris, De l'Imprimerie nationale, s.d. [1794]. 45-page in-8 booklet, unbound. Famous speech of May 7, 1794, in which Robespierre instituted the cult of the Supreme Being, a civic cult of a moral and patriotic nature, consisting of a series of republican festivals dedicated to the great days of the Revolution, to various entities (the Supreme Being, Nature, Liberty, Equality, etc.) or to the virtues most useful to man (Truth, Love of Country, Hatred of Tyrants, etc.). The first fête de l'Être suprême, described after the speech under the title Plan de la fête de l'Être suprême..., took place on Prairial 20, Year II (June 8, 1794): Robespierre set fire to a monument symbolizing atheism surrounded by the enemies of public happiness, and the procession ended with a tremendous discharge of artillery, to which was responded a male warrior song and a fraternal conflagration. This report is one of the two selected for the En français dans le texte catalog (n°191) as an introduction to Robespierre's thought. Enclosed, by the same author: Discours au peuple réuni pour la fête de l'Être suprême. Décadi 20 Prairial, l'an II. [Paris], De l'Imprimerie de la Commission d'instruction publique, s.d. [1794]. Piece in-8, 8 pages, in sheets.
