Printed a hundred leagues from the Bastille under the Liberty sign, 1771. - Mélanges confus sur des matières fort claires. Printed sous le Soleil, n.d. - Le Philosophe cynique, pour servir de suite aux Anecdotes scandaleuses de la cour de France. Printed in an Isle that shakes the Mainland, s.d. 3 parts in an in-8 volume, marbled basane, cold fillet, ornate smooth spine, red title page, red edges (Period binding). This famous allegorical, satirical and licentious pamphlet, written by Théveneau de Morande (1741-1805), a fearsome libellist exiled to London, made Louis XVI, his entourage and the court tremble. Curious copper-engraved frontispiece depicting the cuirassed gazetier firing red balls at a barrel (Madame du Barry), a Medusa-capped head (the Comte de Saint-Florentin) and a wigged head (Chancellor Maupéou). In this ferocious depiction of courtly mores under Louis XVI, printed in London and smuggled into France, the pamphleteer expresses his visceral hatred for the Ancien Régime and its elites (cf. Sgard, Dictionnaire des journaux, no. 484). A pleasant copy. Small stain on three leaves. Binding skilfully restored. Attached, by the same author: La Gazette noire par un homme qui n'est pas blanc; ou Œuvres posthumes du Gazetier cuirassé. Printed a hundred leagues from the Bastille under the Liberty sign, 1784. In-8, paperback. Wet library stamp on verso of title. Some light foxing. Paper loss on spine, foxing on blank cover.
