TRIBUNAL RÉVOLUTIONNAIRE. - Law given in Paris, August 17, 1 - Lot 243
TRIBUNAL RÉVOLUTIONNAIRE. - Law given in Paris, August 17, 1792, the fourth year of Liberty [...]. Paris, De l'Imprimerie nationale, 1792. Leaflet in-4, 4 pages.
First edition of the law that decreed the creation of the very first revolutionary tribunal.
The institution of this legal body followed the events of August 10, 1792, when the people seized the Tuileries Palace and imprisoned Louis XVI in the Temple prison, bringing about the fall of royalty.
Created by the National Assembly on the proposal of deputies, in particular Georges Danton (1759-1794), the Criminal Court operated until November 29, 1792, when it was abolished by the National Convention. It was re-established on March 10, 1793, under the name of Tribunal criminel extraordinaire, then Tribunal révolutionnaire.
The print is signed by Danton and bears the red ink seal of the State in the effigy of Louis XVI.
