Rare collection of 22 books and plates from the years 1856-1858 concerning the Icarian society of the United States.
The collection opens with The Icarian Colony in the United States of America. Sa constitution, ses lois, sa situation matérielle et morale après le premier semestre 1855 (Paris, chez l'Auteur, January 1856), an anonymous 240-page work published in the year of the death of Étienne Cabet, the founder of the utopian Icarian society.
The other texts are more or less short, and several are signed J.-P. Beluze, an agent of the Icarian society: Opinions and sentiments publicly expressed concerning the founder of Icarie (36 pages), War of the opposition against citizen Cabet founder of Icarie (72 pages), Citizen Cabet to the loyal Icarians making up the minority (24 pages), To the Icarians (6 pages), Death of the founder of Icarie (12 pages), La Colonie icarienne à Saint-Louis (24 pages), Célébration du premier anniversaire de la naissance du fondateur d'Icarie (23 pages), Organisation du travail dans la communauté icarienne (23 pages), Cheltenham (22 pages), Inauguration du cours icarien (70 pages).
Imperial stamp repeated. The titles of many of the booklets have not been preserved, and there is some foxing. Spine faded, two jaws split, old repair on second board.
