Dated edition of the original published by Susse et Delloye, described by Gernsheim, p. 200, no. 7 (Dibner, no. 183).
Adorned with a portrait of the author lithographed by Collignon and 6 plates, it contains various advertisements at the end, including a Notice sur quelques instruments construits par N et P. Lerebours pour l'Exposition de 1839 (4 pages) and a Catalogue des sculptures éditées par Susse (2 pages).
The interest of this brochure lies essentially in its contemporaneity with the advent of photography, and in the role it played in spreading the invention [...]. Thanks to the book, within a short time, the Western world knew the name of Daguerre and the first development of an invention due to Nicéphore Niepce (En français dans le texte, n°255).
