Portrait of Louis 1st of Bavaria in General's Uniform
oil on canvas (missing, restored, damaged), unsigned, inscribed on the back: F. Kiessling / 1851 and a trace of a very incomplete label.
73.5 x 59.5 cm.
HISTORY: This work can be compared with the watercolor portrait painted by Franz Xaver Nachtmann (1799-1846) in 1842, as well as with other portraits painted of King Ludwig I of Bavaria in the same uni_x0002_form as a general (see, for example, the one by Joseph Karl Stieler (1781-1858) donated in 1852 and now in the Heidelberg Museum). It bears the orders of military merit of Maximilian Joseph and of the Crown, and the plaques of the orders of Saint-Hubert and Saint-Georges.
This lot is presented in collaboration with Mr. Arnaud de Gouvion Saint-Cyr of Cabinet Jean-Claude Dey.
