China, late 19th century Pair of two-body cabinets in shangxi lacquer, opening with two front doors decorated with polychrome scenes of life. Brass locks with original padlocks. Wear to polychromy, accidents and missing parts. Wooden legs. Dimensions of chests: 40.5 x 82 x 51cm Legs: 26 x 86.5 x 53cm Provenance: Collection of Doctor Maurice Fournials. Appointed in 1923 to the French Occupation Corps in China, he later became the guard physician at the French Legation in Peking, then assistant physician to the President of the Chinese Republic.
