First edition of the most radical of Baron d'Holbach's pamphlets, the bible of materialism (Printing of the mind of man, no. 215). The work, which ends with an apology for atheism, provoked a huge reaction, even among philosophers. It was immediately condemned to be burned. A fine copy in tortoiseshell calf.
