In-12, marbled calf, cold fillet, ornate spine, red title page, marbled edges (period binding). First edition of this collection of utopian projects by the Abbé de Saint-Pierre (1658-1743), who spent his waking hours seeking ways to make people happy (INED, no. 43). Numerous marginal notes in pencil on the first quires. Without the engraved portrait of the author. Some foxing, tears to head covers, two corners dulled.
