Printed a hundred leagues from the Bastille, under the Liberty sign, 1785. In-12, marbled basane, smooth spine decorated with double gilt fillets, red title page, red edges (period binding). This famous allegorical, satirical and licentious pamphlet, written by Théveneau de La Morande (1741-1805), a formidable libellist exiled to London, made Louis XVI, his entourage and the Court tremble. Decorated with a curious copper-engraved frontispiece depicting the cuirassed gazetier firing red balls, and a fold-out plan of the Bastille. Old handwritten bookplate at the bottom of the title: M. B. Gaultier. Label of the Raymond Clavreuil bookshop. Frontispiece legend slightly cut at foot.
