The Assembly of Notables, France, circa 1787 Revolutionary folded fan, the double sheet in engraved paper enhanced in color with the three orders gathered around King Louis XVI in majesty. On the reverse, six verses from the "Ronde joyeuse à l'occasion de l'assemblée des notables" to the tune "Nous n'avons qu'un temps à vivre": "Louis s'occupe sans cesse/ du bonheur de ses sujets/ Et comme père il s'empresse/ A nous combler de bienfaits". Wooden mounting, the plumes enhanced with bone fillets. H.t. 27.6 cm-H.f. 12.8 cm (wear, restoration)
