First edition of Buffon's great work.
The set includes everything published during Buffon's lifetime: Histoire de la terre, 15 volumes with 577 plates, 2 large maps by Vaugondy; Histoire des minéraux, 6 volumes, illustrated with 8 folding maps of the declination of the magnetized needle; Histoire naturelle des oiseaux, 9 volumes, illustrated with 262 plates; 6 volumes (out of 7) of supplements, illustrated with 2 maps and 136 plates.
A pleasant copy, with a few binding defects and a few volumes in different bindings.
Missing the two portraits of Buffon.
