The brooch was made for the current owner's mother in 1928 and has remained in the same family ever since. This work is included in the catalog raisonné of Jean Fouquet's jewelry photographs (Aline Daine, Jean Fouquet 1899-1984, Catalogue : Bijoux, Mémoire de Maîtrise d'histoire de l'art, Université Paris IV Sorbonne, 2002) held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. The catalog includes reproductions of the original design for this brooch, in which Fouquet indicated the location of the colors, as well as a photo. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs also holds the gouache drawing of this brooch, signed by Jean Fouquet and reproduced here.
