REGAMEY Félix Élie, 1844-1907 Hong Kong Bay, January 1, 1899 black pencil on thin paper lined with cardboard (insolation, wear and traces of folds) signed, located and dated lower left, annotated lower right with a handwritten text in brown ink addressed to Ed. Clavery dated Nov. 4, 1905: à Monsieur Ed. Clavery. Nov. 4, 05 / The only interest of this documentary sketch is to give, having been taken from life, a fairly accurate, if very sketchy, view of the imposing aspect of the Queen of the Far East, whom I have nicknamed Victoria the Superb... my book / By gluing this very thin paper in full on a piece of cardboard, the folds will disappear. / Please accept it for the gracious dispatch of your excellent brochure on Honk Kong. / By the same token, I acknowledge receipt of the sum of one hundred francs for your life membership of the Société Franco Japonaise de Paris. / I enclose the invitation to next Thursday's luncheon, where I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you. / All you need now is Africa (?)... / In all sympathy. / Regamey 25 x 41.5 cm Most probably addressed to Édouard Clavery, French diplomat, author of economic works and French consul.
