PARIS THIRD HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY
In its carrying case with central handle, gilt silver chalice and paten, filigree and polychrome painted enamels. The chalice, in neo-Gothic style, has a hexagonal base enhanced with filigree motifs on two levels alternating with three enamels depicting Jesus - Mary - Joseph in mandorles. The central part of the tapered shaft features a six-bossed knot alternating with filigree and engraving. The false cup, with its openwork decoration of floral scrolls, is also enhanced by three enameled medallions of Saints. Engraved on the reverse of the chalice: "AU ST AUTEL SOUVIENS TOI DE J - 24 JUIN 1876 - ".
The center of the paten features a painted enamel decoration on an azure-blue background depicting the tetramorph framing the crucifixion.
Minerve hallmark
Goldsmith: Pierre-Henry FAVIER (father of the second) or Louis Marie FAVIER, same different: FAVIER in all letters, a cruet with handle framed by two grains of medicine above and below.
Weight: of chalice: - height: 26 cm - diameter of foot: 16.3 cm - of bowl: 10.3 cm - of paten: 162 g - diameter: 15.3 cm - of cup: 10.3 cm.
Condition: glaze missing in several places on the paten. On the chalice, two centimeters of filigree mesh are missing from the false cup, and small chips in the enamel and setting.
