Travel jewelry box by Eugénie Pinsot d'Armance (1775-1810), similar to that of Empress Josephine. Mahogany veneer, fully lined with polished steel hinges, with screws surrounded by faceted steel florets, and three sequentially decorated mobile handles, one on the lid and two on the sides. Lid and front each adorned with two oval medallions in Wedgwood cookie with antique decor, encircled by two rows of faceted steel beads. Open, it is sheathed in red morocco. The inner edge of the case, outlined with a light wood fillet, bears the two grips and the ring key for attaching the case to a stand. Two-pin lock with brass ring key. 47.5 x 26 cm x Ht 20 cm Fairly good condition (oxidation of the steel parts, crazing to a medallion, crazing to the veneer and to the bottom of the case, changed keyhole). Consulate - First Empire period (circa 1800-1810), of similar workmanship and dimensions to that of Empress Josephine. Work attributed to Martin Guillaume Biennais for the case and Reynard Schey for the fittings, the leading polished steel manufacturer established in Paris under the Consulate and Empire. Millon sale April 26, 2014, lot 167, sold for €170,000, from a private collection. This is the same manufacture as our box, with a few differences in decoration, but an identical closing system. Work attributed to Biennais and Schey. Provenance: -Eugénie Pinsot d'Armance (1775-1810), née Raffeneau de Lille, wife of diplomat Jean-Baptiste Louis Pinsot d'Armance (1760-1807). -then his daughter Eugénie Sagot (1800-1881), whose name is marked on the underside of the box. -then descendants (a handwritten list of the various owners is attached).
