Jean RIGAUD (1912-1999) & Louis ARRETCHE (1905-1991) Very interesting lot composed of : 1/Jean Rigaud Presumed portrait of Louis Arretche, Stalag VIIIA, 17-2-41 Graphite pencil and white and pink highlights on paper, signed, dated and located lower left with dispatch some traces of crease marks 39 x 29 cm at sight 2/ Louis Arretche - 9 Portraits and or drawings made when he was a prisoner with Jean Rigaud at the Stalag. Signed, located, dated, and some with camp stamps. - 4 landscapes relating to his trip to Greece. Gouaches on paper - 12 landscapes from his trip to South America. Gouaches on paper Jean Rigaud and Louis Arretche are prisoners of war in Stalag VIIA, and collaborate with other prisoner painters to create the "Baraque des Artistes", a veritable art school in Stalag VII A. Louis Arretche (1905-1991) was a major architect of the Trente Glorieuses, known for his reconstruction and modernization projects in France. In particular, he contributed to the post-war reconstruction of Saint-Malo, the redevelopment of Rennes with the Place de la République, and the Jardin des Halles in Paris. Arretche also influenced the teaching of architecture as a professor at the Écoles des Beaux-Arts. His approach combined modernity, functionality and respect for urban heritage, leaving a lasting mark on the architecture of his time.
