INQUISITION. - MARSOLLIER (l'abbé Jacques). Histoire de l'Inquisition et son origine. Cologne, Pierre Marteau, 1693. In-12, speckled calf, gilded coat of arms in the center, spine decorated with small irons, red title page, interior roulette, gilded edges over marbling (period binding).

First edition of this unusual work, placed on the Index the following year.
A copy bearing the coat of arms of Louis-Charles Voisin de Saint-Paul (circa 1682-1708), councillor at the Parlement de Paris and later President à mortier in Rouen.
Headbands damaged, lower one partly destroyed by worms. Light aureoles and ink stain on boards.
