NECKER (Jacques). Compte-rendu au Roi. Paris, De l'Imprimeri - Lot 137
NECKER (Jacques). Compte-rendu au Roi. Paris, De l'Imprimerie du Cabinet du Roi, 1781. In-4, half red morocco, ornate spine, olive title page, marbled edges (Modern binding in the taste of the period). Another copy of the true first edition, complete with the 2 maps and the large folding table. Without the portrait. Bound at the head, by the same author: Mémoire donné au Roi. En 1778. S.l.n.d. [1781] (1 f. title, II and 27 pp.). This memoir on provincial administrations was composed in 1778 and printed furtively in 1781 (Stourm). Bound at the end: [SAINT-VINCENT (Robert de)]. Observations modestes d'un citoyen, Sur les Opérations de Finances de M. Necker [...]. S.l.n.d. [1781 ?]. The author defends Necker and tends to prove that the means employed by the minister were the best combined. The copy is further enriched with 4 engravings executed during Necker's time: a superb allegorical frontispiece colored in the period with the legend Allégorie du Compte-rendu au Roi, another allegorical frontispiece, and 2 portraits of Necker (one as a loose proof).
