INCUNABLE. - VIRGILE. Opera. Nuremberg, Anton Koberger, 1492. In-folio, half calf, spine decorated with false ribbing, red edge, circa 1810. Goff, V 188. Rare incunabula edition, printed in Roman type and with comments by Landino surrounding Virgil's text. The edition contains the continuation of the Aeneid, composed by the Italian humanist Mapheus Vegius (1406-1458), occupying leaves 316 to 323. A rubricated copy, the initials painted in red or blue. A beautiful blue initial on a gilded background in a green and pink frame adorns the beginning of Virgil's text. Wide angular wetness throughout the volume, widening at the end. First leaf blank, title handwritten in the 19th century.
