First edition of fascicules n°I and III of Éléments de mathématique, a treatise published by a group of young French mathematicians under the pseudonym Nicolas Bourbaki, with the aim of breaking new ground in the main branches of pure mathematics. Even today, the name Bourbaki is surrounded by a halo of fascination and mystery.
