Gilbert Pastor, born in Marseille in 1939, is a self-taught artist who followed his passion for drawing and painting from an early age. Influenced by the scenes of daily life and landscapes of his native region, he has developed a unique style that combines realism and poetry.
The narrow streets of downtown Marseille have been a constant source of inspiration for Pastor, who has captured the city's raw and authentic beauty in his drawings and paintings. He also explored the rural landscapes of Provence, particularly the Luberon plateaus and the valleys of the Var region, where he found rich subject matter and maintained his famous ochre color palette throughout his life. But it is perhaps in his bedroom scenes that Gilbert Pastor shone the brightest. He created an intimate and personal world, populated by familiar characters and objects, that captured the imagination of many art lovers.
A prolific artist, producing thousands of drawings and paintings during his lifetime, he has exhibited in numerous galleries throughout France and has received numerous awards and honors for his work.
The Rossini auction house is organizing an auction of more than 2,000 works, most of them unpublished, which have remained in the artist's studio to this day after his death in 2015.
