Jean-Étienne CHAMPIONNET (1762-1800) general of the Revoluti - Lot 569
Jean-Étienne CHAMPIONNET (1762-1800) general of the Revolution, hero of the Army of Sambre-et-Meuse, the conqueror of Naples. End of L.S., [ca. 1798-1799]; half-page in-4. "If my efforts to punish the scellerats who traffic in the blood of the defenders of the Republic were fruitless, if they found a way to escape the vengeance of the Laws, I would owe it to my honor, I would owe it to the army, I would owe it to the Fathers and Mothers of the soldiers of the Fatherland to denounce them myself to the whole Republic, to point them out as assassins and to make known all that I did to have them punished. A l.a.s. from a certain Ducros to his cousin, Strasbourg 19 fructidor VII (5 sept. 1799), on the death of general Joubert and praise of Championnet is enclosed.
