Gaston CHAISSAC (1910-1964). 2 L.A.S., 1960, to a doctor; 4 - Lot 676
Gaston CHAISSAC (1910-1964). 2 L.A.S., 1960, to a doctor; 4 pages small in-4 each (bifeuillets of a schoolboy notebook), envelopes to Miss Estelle Bonavita, in Bordeaux and Maillé (the 2nd letter a little split at the folds with lower edge slightly frayed). Letters to his doctor, with three stories, one of them to the glory of the Vendée. [December 26, 1960]. His daughter "chirps in her little bed"... Details of his own digestive problems. He suggests that the doctor give him some drawings as a gift. The second half of the letter is devoted to three "little stories" that the doctor might prefer to his painting: Margottin, where we follow Margottin on a morning trip to the countryside, to meet Father Zut, Ida, Mme de Conquin and Théodore... Belle Vendée, a tribute to the country that possesses all the riches: "the Fatherland is proud to possess you, without you something would be missing, pretty Vendée"... to a dead ant: "At the edge of the wood rises a funerary monument which carries this inscription: "Here rests a laborious ant deceased during the last earthquake. She left only regrets. For her pray"... [December 31, 1960]. He had lost weight and found himself "more depressed"; he should have asked her for a homeopathic treatment to replace the phosphoric acid and adrenal extract that he was prescribed... He confided that he had "often thought about animal magnetism and wished to be a groom", in order to be able to experiment with it. "I was interested in medicine and studied for a while, some things of it, especially on the action of alcohol on man, it can make him crazy, but some madness are not they useful? And the madmen that have created new things bringing progress, human welfare, do not seem to me useless, except those that give birth to machines that kill. Also those who deplore that the alcoholic has children, must be mistaken. To make geniuses you need a nursery soaked in alcohol. They are deranged, abnormal, no doubt, but normal people have never done anything out of the ordinary"...
