[Pierre-François PALLOY (1754-1835) contractor, demolisher of the Bastille]. P.S. by the deputies Claude Blanchard and Nicolas-Claude Tronchon, Paris July 31, 1792; 1 1/2 pages in-fol. with vignette and letterhead Extract from the Minutes of the National Assembly, seal under paper. Presentation by Palloy to the Assembly of the monument of the Bastille. Palloy "presents to the assembly the tools which were used to lay the first stone of the Column which must be raised in the honor of freedom on the ruins of the Bastille. They are made of the debris of this fortress. It also offers a beautiful stone table [...] on which is engraved the declaration of the rights of man; plus the table & the models of the six civic medals which are contained in the first stone of the monument"...The Assembly decrees that "the tools will be deposited in the Archives, as well as the table of the civic medals & the minutes, and that the table on which is engraved the declaration of the rights of man will be suspended in the interior of the room"... 3 copies of letters of Palloy, 1792 (1 p. each), addressed to Manuel, prosecutor of the Commune (July 4), to "Mrs les Vainqueurs" (July 12), and to the President of the Legislative Assembly (July 31), on his work in the Bastille, are attached.
