Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963). - Lot 389
Jean COCTEAU (1889-1963). L.A. signed with a star, [early April 1940], to Jean MARAIS; 1 page small in-fol. He begins by telling his "Jeannot" about his play Le Bel Indifférent (premiered April 19, 1940 at the Bouffes-Parisiens): "We've just seen Bébé's [Christian Bérard's] set, still poorly planted - and it's a masterpiece. It has magnificence and mystery. It lacks your eye and your pleasure. Without you, things are not beautiful. [...] Now I'd like to show you Piaf and Meurisse in this setting and - even if things go wrong - I'd be proud and happy to live - despite my eye and my taxman's anguish!" He then mentions a film project, and encourages his Jeannot: "My angel, work. Your act will come together and delight the audience"... On C, decorative charcoal sketch. 300/400 €
