[LA MÉSANGÈRE]. Journal des dames et des modes. Paris, 1797-1838. 41 volumes in-8, half vellum (mid-19th century binding).
Exceptional copy, complete with engravings, of this attractive fashion journal published from 30 Ventôse an V to 19 janvier 1839.
The illustration consists of 3624 engravings of costumes, both feminine and masculine, almost all in color.
The copy includes the first issues, which Colas says are extremely rare (no. 1561), as well as the last issue (43rd year, no. 3, January 19, 1839), which Vicaire (t. IV, 1110-1359) had never encountered.
The copy has been meticulously collated by a 19th-century bibliophile, who has left handwritten notes on its composition: the first series lacks 8 leaves of text and a music plate, and there are also additional plates.
